Visual Artist (Lima, Peru)

Claudia Gastaldo studied Painting at the Art School of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú and worked for more than twenty years as an illustrator for El Comercio Publishing Group, the most prominent journalistic institution in Peru.

Her work has been recognized with fifteen national and international awards in the categories of painting, illustration, photomontage, and infographics. These include distinctions from the Inter-American Press Association (SIP), the Malofiej Silver Award (University of Navarra, Spain), and the Silver Award from the Society for News Design (SND).

Daughter of a Peruvian mother and an Italian father, Claudia was shaped by the richness of a multicultural family—surrounded by diverse influences and stimuli that nurtured creative thinking and allowed her to develop an expressive and distinctive style from an early age. It is a style in which she finds and affirms her identity, and which has remained authentic in essence over the years.

Claudia Gastaldo defines herself as a multifaceted artist with a deep creative drive toward the exploration of materials and new technologies. This has allowed her to evolve, adapt, and transform—embracing diverse techniques and expressive forms across her projects.

“The invaluable freedom to create without limits”

Her work spans painting, drawing, photography, functional art, digital illustration, artisanal weaving, photomontage, video art, textile and surface pattern design, among others.

Sensitive and intuitive, Claudia feels a special connection to the countryside and the mountains, a fascination with rustic fabrics and traditional Andean costumes, and a profound love and respect for nature. All of this is reflected in her bold color palette, which plays a central role in her creations and serves as her primary expressive tool—to communicate, evoke emotion, and create powerful visual impact.

In this new chapter as a textile artist, her influences are broad and universal:

“The images, the shapes, and the colors come from different places, cultures, and epochs. As if it were a genetic code or inherited knowledge, that information exists in some hidden place of my being and my unconscious, waiting only for the opportunity to be revealed and recognized in each of my creations.”
